However, there are ways to ensure that you have a stronger scent throw in your melter. For example, you may want to choose a heavier fragrance oil. What ever your use, we will talk about some of our client’s favorite scents for wax melts. We will also talk about choosing more complex fragrance oils.

Why Choose Heavier Fragrance Oils for your Wax Melts?

Are you looking for a strong aroma in your home that you will enjoy? Using a strong fragrance oil in your wax melts will ensure that your home is completely filled with good scents. A fragrance oil will smell differently in the bottle than it will in your finished wax melts. The reasoning behind this is because in the bottle all you smell are the top notes. Then, when the fragrance is mixed into the wax melts, you will smell the incorporation of all three notes. Choosing heavier fragrance oils will ensure that you are able to distinguish these notes more clearly in your final product. Also, depending on the size of the room that your wax melts are melted in, you may need stronger fragrances to encompass the whole room.

What Makes These Fragrances Heavier?

There are several factors that play into making a fragrance oil more strong than another. All of the fragrance oils sold at Nature’s Garden are already 100% concentrated. This means that our fragrance oils aren’t diluted, and you will get the full aroma of the fragrance. This is one of the factors that plays into a strong fragrance oil.

Next to the concentration of the fragrance, the evaporation time is another factor that plays into its strength. More complex fragrances, meaning fragrance oils that have top, middle, and base notes, tend to linger longer. The first impression you get of a fragrance oil is the scent of the top note. After the top note evaporates, you get the aroma of the middle notes. Finally, the base notes in the scent round it out, anchoring the scent and allowing it to linger longer. The stronger fragrance and more complex the notes, the longer it will typically linger.

Now, let’s talk about single notes scents. While some single note scents will still be strong and work well in a burner, often they tend to fade away a bit sooner than more complex scents. A single note scent doesn’t have base notes to anchor it. So, while it might still be strong and wonderful, it is more likely it won’t have as much longevity when compared side by side to a more complex fragrance oil.

Grab a medium sized mixing bowl, and set it on the scale. Tare out the weight of the mixing bowl on the scale to zero grams. You want to weigh out the pomegranate fruit, papaya leaf, calendula flowers, and green tea powders. The order that you weigh these powders doesn’t matter.

Mixing the Dry Ingredients Together

After adding the previous powders, you then want to add 448 grams of the Rhassoul Clay Powder. After adding the last powder, you want to mix all of the powders around in the bowl until they are evenly dispersed. If you don’t evenly disperse them, you may not get the full effect of the facial mask all around your face. There are two ways you can mix these. First, you could put on some gloves, and move the powders around with your hands until they are fully dispersed among each other. When you do this, it doesn’t hurt to take your fingers and break up any clumps in the powder. Second, you could take a fork or spoon, and sift through the powders.

Adding and Mixing the Wet Ingredients into the Powder

After mixing all of the dry ingredients in the mixing bowl, the next step is to add in the wet ingredients. The first wet ingredient to add to the facial mask mixture is the Vitamin E Oil. Vitamin E Oil is a natural oil that can protect your skin against sunburn damage, and can also be used to counteract inflammation. Use the disposable pipette to add the oil into the mixture. You want to fill up the pipette with the oil, then add 48 drops of the vitamin e oil to the dry mixture. Afterward, you want to dispose of the pipette and get a new one. With the new pipette, fill it with tea tree essential oil. You want to add 64 drops of the tea tree essential oil to the mixture.

Packaging the Dry Ingredients

When the oils are added to the mixture, thoroughly mix the ingredients together. You want to make sure that there are no clumps leftover in the mixture when you are done mixing it. Like before, it may also help to put on gloves, and go through with your hands afterward and break apart any clumps. The mixture should still be a powdery substance when you are done mixing. Now that the powdered portion is finished, scoop the mixture in the bowl into the four ounce jars. Then, you can close the lids on the jars. You should place a lid on each of the jars as you finish filling them. The lids should easily go on. If you notice that you’re trying to force the lid, remove a little bit of the facial mask mixture, and try again.

Packaging the Vegetable Glycerin

Next, you want to prepare seven 1 oz clear bullet bottles. When preparing these bottles, it wouldn’t hurt to put some decent space in between them to avoid knocking one of them over. In each of these bottles, you want to add 24 grams of vegetable glycerin. You can do this by placing each bullet bottle on a scale, and tare it out to zero. Then after taring the bullet bottle, you can fill up a new disposable pipette with vegetable glycerin and add it to the bottle. When all the bottles are properly filled, you want to place a white ribbed lid on each of the bottles. You should tightly secure the lids on the bottles. This will eliminate the possibility of any leaks.

Using the Facial Mask for Acne Recipe

Now that all of the ingredients are completely made, the next step is to use the facial mask. Before using the face mask, make sure to clean up your work area when you are done, as there are a lot of products that were used that could’ve gotten everywhere. To use the facial mask, you want to first get a small mixing bowl. In this small mixing bowl, you want to add one tablespoon of powder, two tablespoons of water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of vegetable glycerin. After adding these ingredients in the bowl, mix them well to get a complete consistency. After you are done mixing these ingredients together, the facial mask is ready to use and apply to your face.

A Side Note for this Recipe

As a side note, here at Nature’s Garden we choose to package the powder separately from the Vegetable Glycerin in our facial mask for acne recipe. Since we don’t have to create the mask with water, this will eliminate the need to add a preservative to it. The reason behind this is that microorganisms and bacteria thrive and live in water induced environments. To eliminate this threat when packaging the face masks, we use vegetable glycerin packaged separately instead, so preservatives aren’t needed. You customers can then mix up the facial masks as needed. This efficient solution will allow your customer to interact more with how they want their facial masks. They can add more water if they would like a thinner mask and less water to make a thicker consistency You can make about 8 facial masks from each of the 4 oz jars.

We recently have created some new homemade facial mask recipes. We made each of these with a different purpose in mind for the skin. This one in particular that we will be talking about today is for skin that is aging prematurely. Aging happens to all types of skin, in any stage of life, and it could be experienced by both men and women. We at Natures Garden carry a plethora of herbs and powders such as rose hips powder and carrot powder. These herbs have been used in many of the recipes found on the Natures Garden website. Our herbs and powders are highly versatile in cosmetic products, and we wanted to show how they can be utilized in products like face masks, starting with this premature aging facial mask recipe!

Background on the Recipe Powders

Before we begin, you might like to know a little bit of background information on the five powders we will be using. We carry plenty of herbs and powders at Natures Garden which have many beneficial properties to them. Understanding the certain elements each can bring will help you decide which ones to use in your items. There are also some additional recipes on our website that use these powders.

Dead sea clay powder:

This comes in grey and green shades. This is a powder that is mined from ancient sea floors, including the Dead Sea. Additionally, this powder is also rich in many nutrients, including calcium, potassium, iron, and aluminum, which nourish the skin. Dead sea clay also exfoliates and removes dead skin cells and any toxins. This was also used in our recipe for mechanics soap.

Rose hips powder:

These come from wild roses. They also contribute to anti aging, brightening and moisturizing the skin, and may help with acne issues. Rose hips have high levels of vitamins A, E, D, and C. Each of these qualities make it an ideal herbal powder to add to cosmetics. Check it out in our foaming rose petal bath bombs recipe!

Camu Camu powder:

Camu camu is another powder that contains many vitamins, such as vitamin B1, B2, B3, and C. It also has many essential amino acids and antioxidants. This is a great powder to use in cosmetics for premature aging, dark patches, and scarring. In addition, you can try our blueberry bath bomb or acai berry smoothie sugar scrub!

Noni fruit powder:

This type of powder is great to use in soap and other body products. Noni fruit originates from Tahiti and has actually been named the queen of all health plants. This is because it contains approximately twenty amino acids, along with minerals, vitamins, and antioxidants. It is fantastic for health benefits and the health and elasticity of the skin. Some of these properties are shown through our lavender fizzy bath recipe.

Carrot powder:

This herbal powder is very beneficial to the skin. It helps repair, tone, reduce scars, and it contains many vitamins as well. In addition, it has calcium, potassium, iron, magnesium, and phosphorus. A great thing about this powder is that it can naturally color your cosmetic recipes orange. Another recipe we have with carrot powder is a facial mask that you will see from Natures Garden, which helps reduce the appearance of wrinkles.

Weigh Out the Dead Sea Clay

For the first step, we need to get out a large mixing bowl and our scale for weighing. Each of the powder ingredients need to be measured out to ensure accuracy. First, add 224 grams of the dead sea clay powder to your mixing bowl.

Incorporate the Other Powders

Next, once again, using your scale, weigh out the rest of the powders individually. To the same medium sized bowl, add in the rose hips powder, camu camu powder, noni fruit powder, and the carrot powder. Whichever order you want to add these is up to you, the order really does not matter in this step. Once everything is in the mixing bowl, mix all of it together. You can either use a mixing spoon or your hands for this step. We prefer using our hands so that we are able to break up any clumps in the mixture and to make sure that everything gets evenly dispersed.

Add in the Vitamin E Oil

Now, you will need to get out a couple of disposable pipettes. First, you can get out the Vitamin E Oil. The version of this oil that Natures Garden carries is called Tocopherol T-50, which is the purest form. Many cosmetic recipes call for at least a small amount of vitamin e oil, this is because vitamin E will help slow oxidation. So, dip one of the disposable pipettes into the bottle and add 24 drops of it to the powder mixture.

Integrate the Amyris Essential Oil

In this next step, you will need to grab another disposable pipette. You will dip it into the bottle of the amyris essential oil and add 32 drops of it into the mixture you have so far. Amyris essential oil originates from Haiti. This is often added to perfumes as a fixative in order to extend the fragrant life of a blend. It provides soothing qualities as well. After this is added, all of the ingredients for the recipe have been added! Give your mixture a final stir and mix the ingredients together with either a spoon or a spatula.

Scoop the Mixture into the Jars

Once you have given the powder a final mix, the powdered portion of the recipe is completed. Next, grab the four jars along with their lids. You should have four 4 oz. clear jars. Take a spoon, spatula, measuring cup, or whatever you want to use and begin scooping the powder into each of the jars. Finally, once they are full, place a lid on each one.

Make the Vegetable Glycerin Bottles

Since your powdered portion is now finished, you can get your 1 oz. clear bullet bottles ready to go. Fill each of these up with 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin. Once you have them all filled up, place a white ribbed lid on each bullet bottle.

Using Your Anti-Aging Facial Mask

When you are ready to go and use your brand new facial mask, you are going to need a small bowl or container. To the bowl, add in one tablespoon of the powder mixture, two tablespoons of regular water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin from the separate bottle. This is the formula for making each face mask from your jars. Use a spoon and mix it all together well until it is smooth. However, depending on if you prefer a thin or a thick facial mask, you would incorporate more or less water to the bowl.

Preservatives in Face Masks

We wanted to mention something that is important to know in cosmetic products. When it comes to making things such as facial masks, they will require a preservative. This is because the product will not last longer than a couple of days without one. It can mold, it will develop bacteria, and other things may develop on it. Preservatives prevent that from happening and allow for a longer shelf life. We want to say that we purposely chose to package the powder portion and the vegetable glycerin separately from one another. For that reason, this facial mask no longer requires a preservative to make it last.

Instead, when you are ready to use them, you will need to create the individual masks by adding in the water and vegetable glycerin. This method allows you to prepare a quicker product to sell to your customers, increases the shelf life, and avoids bacteria from growing. Each of the four ounce jars will give you approximately 8 facial masks. We hope that you enjoyed following along and making our brand new premature aging facial mask recipe!

Benefits of Using Natural Rose Clay Powder in Cosmetics

Rose clay, otherwise known as pink clay, is a naturally occurring clay that contains kaolinite. Rose Clay Powder is used in cosmetics, soaps, facial masks, mud baths, and can also be used as a natural pink colorant for many foundations. Natural clay powders are usually used to absorb any impurities from the skin like dirt, makeup, and any oils. The reason why rose clay stands out from most other oils is that it has the natural tendency to strip all oils from the skin other than the skin’s natural oils. This is one of the reasons why rose clay was selected for this recipe, because it leaves the natural oils in the skin that are needed to keep the skin’s elasticity. Also, if you have sensitive skin, then rose clay is usually an excellent choice for this skin type, because it has a gentle cleansing action to it.

Make sure that your work area is clean and all of your packaging materials are clean too. This will make it so that no foreign substances make their way into your recipe. Any type of foreign substance can cause the recipe to not behave as intended. You can use soap and water to clean your work surface, as this will make sure that any other substances are picked up. To make sure that the mixture gets thoroughly mixed together, you can add the powder in small increments and mix while you add. You want to make sure that all of the dry powders are completely mixed together, and they all form one uniform color. After the powders are all mixed, you want to grab an unused disposable pipette. Fill up the pipette with Vitamin E Oil. Carefully, drip 24 drops of the vitamin e oil into the mixture.

Adding in the Ginger Essential Oil

Dispose of the pipette that you used to drip the vitamin e oil into the mixture. This will alleviate any confusion in the future from using the same pipette again and contaminating any of your ingredients. Grab a new pipette and fill it with ginger essential oil. Carefully, start dripping 32 drops of the ginger essential oil into the mixture. After you dripped enough essential oil, dispose of the disposable pipette into the trash. Ginger essential oil is commonly used to reduce inflammation and rid toxins from out of the skin.

Final Mixing of the Powdered Portion of the Recipe

After all of the oils are added to the powder portion of the recipe, use a spoon or spatula to mix the powders. You want to make sure to break apart any clumps when mixing as to make sure that you have only a powder when you’re done. If you are having trouble breaking up the powder, then you can even go one step further and put on gloves, then break it up with your hands. After you are finished mixing the ingredients, the powdered portion of the Facial Mask for Wrinkles Recipe is now complete. The next step is to add the powdered portion into the four ounce jars.

Adding the Powdered Portion to the Jars

To add the powdered portion to the jars, it is usually recommended that you use a spoon to scoop it into the jars. So, get approximately 5-four ounce jars, and make room on the area that you are working on. Find a spoon and begin to scoop the powdered portion of the facial mask into the four ounce jars. Make sure you don’t pack it too tightly into the jar, as you want to be able to get it back out again. Also, don’t pack the jars too full, because you want to be able to lid them when you are done. Weighing and Packaging the Wet Portion of the Recipe

Now that the dry powdered portion of the facial mask is finished, next is the wet portion. The wet portion of the facial mask gets added to the powdered portion to make the facial mask. First, let’s clear off an area in your work space to setup the 1 oz. clear bullet bottles. Set up one bullet bottle for each of the four ounce jars that you made. Grab a new disposable pipette and fill it up with vegetable glycerin. One by one, put the bullet bottle on the scale, and tare out its weight. Then, keep adding vegetable glycerin to each of the bullet bottles until they read 12 grams. Add a white ribbed lid to each of the bottles. Now the wet portion of the face mask is ready to sell or use.

How to Use and Mix the Facial Mask

Now that all the parts of your facial mask are complete, the last step is to use the Facial Mask for Wrinkles Recipe. The first thing you need to do to use your facial mask is to get a small mixing bowl. The ratio that you want to mix in the bowl is a tablespoon of powder, two tablespoons of water, and about half a teaspoon of vegetable glycerin. You should use the disposable pipette to add the vegetable glycerin. This will eliminate the possibility of any mess occurring from pouring the substance. There are roughly 57 drops to make half a teaspoon, or about 3/4 of the bulb on the end of our disposable pipettes sold at Natures Garden.

Clean and sanitize your work area and all of your packaging materials. We suggest that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net while preparing this recipe.

Background on the Powders for the Recipe

We think that is important to know the reasons behind the powders we chose to use for this specific recipe. All herbal powders, herbs, flowers, etc. possess different qualities and properties. Some are better than others depending on the recipe you are making and what you want to use it for. For example, if you are trying to find products that will help reduce the size of your pores and will moisten your skin, then red Moroccan clay is going to be a great choice to incorporate into your recipe(s). We chose these ingredients carefully and according to specific skin issues. As you know, this one is for scarring.

Bentonite Clay Powder:

This clay powder originally comes in light grey and beige tones. When water is added to it, however, it turns into an olive colored green shade. Bentonite clay contributes some smoothness to cosmetic formulas when they are applied to the face and skin. It also helps clear impurities in the skin when added into products like this face mask. There are many other bath and body recipes that it performs fabulously in, such as shaving soap, cold process soap, lotions, and bath bombs. Some of the products we have created using it are the freshly ground coffee bath bombs and the Easter egg bath fizzies.

Marshmallow Root Powder:

This type of powder is most commonly used for helping wounds to heal, reducing swelling, and for its ability to soothe and soften the skin. It is a good powder to add to products made for people with dry skin. Its ability to moisturize the surfaces will be helpful in recipes like lotion. Marshmallow root powder is also commonly added to bath tea, facial and body scrubs, creams, ointments, as well as bath bombs, hair products, and even toothpaste.

Slippery Elm Bark Powder:

The next powder, slippery elm bark, is one of the ingredients from Essiac Tea. This is a blend of multiple herbs, including Indian rhubarb, burdock root, and some others that boost the immune system. It also helps to reduce redness and helps to soothe the skin. Slippery elm can also be used for medical benefits as well, such as an upset stomach, a sore throat, and for treating burns, scrapes, etc. This is added to hair products, soap, bath bombs, scrubs, and of course, facial masks like this one.

Olive Leaf Powder:

Our olive leaf powder originates from Albania and it has many beneficial properties to it. There are plenty of vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals in it. This powder can also help wounds to heal. These facts make it a great addition to many naturally homemade cosmetics. Some of them are bath teas, creams, lotions, facial toners, and massage oils. Olive powder can be added to facial masks to improve cell regeneration and to moisturize the skin. Another benefit of this powder is that it can be used as a natural green colorant to your cosmetic products. Adding more or less can alter the color and give you what you the one you are looking for. Aloe Vera Leaf Powder:

Finally, we have our aloe vera leaf powder, which originates in Mexico. This is well known for its properties and abilities to heal skin. Since it has salicylates in it, this powder can really relieve pain. The aloe vera plant also contains healing powers with the gel inside. This is used for skin that is inflamed, irritated, or sunburned. This contains vitamin C, some minerals, and many antioxidants as well. Many recipes can be made with this powder, including bath bombs, cold process soap, bath salts, and shampoo. Some of the ones we have made are a pampered foot scrub and a sunburn relief bath tea recipe.

Add in the Bentonite Clay Powder

Now that all of you are more aware of the purposes behind choosing each of these herbal powders for this recipe, we can dive right into it. To begin, you will need to get a medium mixing bowl and a scale for weighing the powders out. We will start the recipe by measuring out 448 grams of the bentonite clay powder in the mixing bowl.

Mix in the Other Powders

Next, get the rest of the dry powder ingredients ready to incorporate. We will weigh each of them out separately, however, the particular order does not matter since they will all be mixed together anyway. We started out with the marshmallow root powder, then added in the slippery elm bark powder, the olive leaf powder, and lastly, the aloe vera leaf powder.

Break Up the Clumps

Once they are all in the mixing bowl, use your hands, with gloves on, to fully mix the ingredients and to break up any clumps in the mixture. You could also take a spoon to stir the powders, but we find it easier to use our hands in order to get all of the clumps out.

Integrate the Vitamin E Oil into the Mixture

Now, take a disposable pipette and dip it into your bottle of vitamin e oil. Add 48 drops of this to the mixing bowl with the powder mixture. The vitamin e oil that we sell at Natures Garden is in its purest form, coming only from plant sources. Several cosmetic recipes have vitamin e oil listed as an ingredient. This is because it helps prevent the oils in the recipes from oxidizing, which would result in a rancid smell and change of color to brown. This is an antioxidant and is strictly to be used to prevent discoloration and products from becoming rancid. It is not meant to be used as a preservative, since that is not what this product is. Vitamin e oil will not kill bacteria in your projects unlike a true preservative would.

Incorporate the Geranium Essential Oil

Then, for the next step, use a different disposable pipette. Dip it into the geranium essential oil and add 64 drops of it to the same bowl. Geranium essential oil comes from the leaves and flowers of the plant pelargonium graveolens. It could also possibly provide several health benefits for conditions such as acne or irritations and infections of the skin. Since it is often used as aromatherapy, it has been said to help relieve anxiety, stress, and even depression. Other types of cosmetic recipes that it is commonly used in are room sprays, massage oils, and added to baths for relaxation.

Mix the Ingredients Together

At this point, everything should be in the bowl, including the bentonite clay, marshmallow root, slippery elm bark, olive leaf, aloe vera leaf, vitamin e oil, and the geranium essential oil. For this last step, take either a spatula or a spoon and mix all of these ingredients together from the mixture.

Fill Each of the Jars Up

Once you have stirred everything together thoroughly, your powdered portion will be finished! Grab your four ounce clear jars to put your new face masks into! Take a spoon and scoop the powder into all seven of the jars until they are filled up and place a lid solidly on each one of them.

Make Up the Bottles of Vegetable Glycerin

Next, get all of your 1 oz. clear bullet bottles prepared and ready. You will also need your scale again for this step. Once you have them, fill all seven of them with 12 grams of the vegetable glycerin. After doing that, place a white ribbed lid tightly on each of the bottles.

Using the Facial Mask

Now, you might be wondering how you are going to actually apply this face mask. When you are ready, you will need to get a small mixing bowl out. You can start by scooping out a tablespoon of the powder mixture, two tablespoons of water, and about 1/2 teaspoon of the vegetable glycerin. Mix all of this together.

Note: We did not add water to our facial mask, which means adding a preservative is not necessary. By packing the powder portion separately from the vegetable glycerin, it allows you to create a quicker product for your customers. Each one of the seven jars will make up approximately 8 facial masks.

Cold Process Soap Making Supplies

We at Natures Garden would like to share with you the supplies and materials needed when making cold process soap! We know that the majority of our customers are familiar with the soap and candle making industries. However, we think that it is important to provide educational blogs, videos, and recipes for beginners and anyone looking to learn or expand their knowledge. There are many different classes and recipes on our website that help guide our customers when making homemade projects. One of the main topics that these center around is cold process soap. We will dive into the process, some of our classes, and mention multiple recipes we have. Let’s get started!

Cold Process Soap

In general, soap crafters consider cold process soap to be one of the most common methods for soap making. This method has been termed “cold process” because there is no outside heating source applied to initiate the process of saponification. Hot process soap uses different types of heating sources, such as the stove or a crock pot. On the other hand, in cold process soap, the lye mixture creates heat and saponifies the oils by itself. The lack of a heat source unfortunately means that this type of soap will take a lot longer to cure. The typical curing time for cold process soap is between 4 and 6 weeks. Although lengthy, this curing time is necessary to allow the soap to harden. The longer cure time will also help your soap to be more tolerable on the skin.

After creating your soap, you can decide whether or not you want to insulate it. A lot of the research we read suggests insulating, but it is mostly up to your personal preference. We have written a blog in the past about how you can insulate soap to promote gel phase. After pouring the soap into your mold, surround it with layers of towels or blankets. The layers will absorb the heat while your soap undergoes saponification. This process is the gel phase, where the fats in your soap become hardened. The key to this process is evenly heating the soap in order to prevent a partial gel from occurring. If you insulate, it will accelerate saponification and the finished look will look slightly shiny. By deciding to put your soap in the fridge instead, saponification will slow down and the finish will look more matte.

Ingredients in Cold Process Soap: Lye

Now that we have discussed the process of insulation, we should mention ingredients that are important for cp soap. In order to get your bars of soap to turn out correctly, measuring the ingredients to a tee is very important. Starting with the main ingredient, sodium hydroxide, which is also known as lye. This is completely necessary to make cold process soap. Lye is an emulsifier, which allows oils and butters to mix with water and make soap. Without it, these ingredients would not mix which would prevent any soap being made. By adding too much lye, it can result in your soap having a higher PH level, which may end up causing burns and irritation to the skin. On the other hand, if the lye is not balanced properly with the oils, it can interfere with the reaction, which can lead to greasy and oily bars of soap.

Ingredients in Cold Process Soap: Oils

Palm oil, coconut oil, and olive oil pomace are all commonly used when making cold process soap. They contribute different qualities to your soap depending on their main properties. We have a chart on our website that breaks down the soaping oil properties for each type of oil. The properties we looked at are hardness, cleansing, conditioning level, bubbly lather, creamy lather, and sap value. Also included in the chart is some miscellaneous information to provide you with more knowledge about each of the oils. Palm oil is high in its hardness, conditioning, and creamy lathering elements. Coconut oil contributes to hardness, cleansing quality, and bubbly lather. Olive oil pomace is very high in conditioning, which is definitely an ideal quality for soap. The combination of these three oils would create a soap that cleanses thoroughly, lathers nicely, and is gentle on the skin all at the same time.

Ingredients in Cold Process Soap: Colorants

Some other ingredients that are commonly added to cold process soap are FUN soap colorants, soap dyes, and mica pigments. We have many different color options to choose from in colorants, dyes, and beautiful diamond dust and 24K gold micas. When it comes to adding colorants or pigments, some may cause color morphing, which could affect the appearance aspect of your soap. To save yourself the frustration of ruining a batch of soap that discolors to something you do not like, you can test this out before hand. This can be done by taking a small amount of soap dye or mica pigment and adding it to a little of the lye mixture. You will be able to see your results quickly.

Cold Process Soap Testing

We have taken the time to test each of our fragrance oils in cold process soap. This way, our customers are able to see the results before they decide to use them. When we tested them, we were specifically looking for acceleration, discoloration, ricing, separation, and scent retention. We have the results for each of them on the website in video form as well as a chart. These videos can be found when you search by the individual fragrance oils. Over 300 of them did not cause any discoloration. A few included in these are the Aromatherapy Energizing, Blueberry, Egyptian Musk, and Magnolia. Some of the ones that caused discoloration include Absinthe, Blue Cotton Candy, Cream Soda, and Pomegranate Cider. Cold Process Soap Class 101

We have a couple of classes on the website that are good for beginner soap makers. The first one is our Cold Process Soap Class 101. It is easy to follow along with this class, but you will need to get your ingredients ahead of time. As we mentioned before, the most important one you need to create cold process soap is lye. You will also need distilled water, vinegar, some soaping oils, a fragrance oil that is body safe, and colorant(s) that are body safe. There is plenty of equipment you will need to safely make cold process soap, a list of which can be found in our Soaping 101 Class.

Doing your research before making cold process soap for the first time is extremely important. For example, if you have never worked with lye before, you will need to learn about it before hand. Your top priority when making soap should be practicing proper safety because accidents may happen if precautions are not taken. Another thing when it comes to lye is that it cannot be stored in or combined with any containers or other products that are made out of aluminum or tin. The reason for this is that the combination will cause a violent reaction. For these reasons, we implore you to use the safety gear that is provided by Natures Garden including safety goggles, a safety mask, and gloves. One last thing to remember is that the materials and equipment used when making soap should never be used for food again. By keeping these steps in mind and being cautious, making soap can be both easy and fun!

Beginners Cold Process Soap Recipe

Another one of our cold process classes for beginners makes an easy to follow cold process soap recipe. This is the perfect recipe to start with if you have no experience making this type of soap. Natures Garden sells each of the items featured in this recipe. This makes it possible and convenient to get your products from a single source. This soap uses Rain Barrel Fragrance Oil which is a fragrance oil that is original to this company! It has notes of leafy greens balanced with lavender, cedar, musk, highlights of lemon, and fresh water. You will also need some pieces of equipment including a thermometer, a stainless steel mitre box with a cutter, and disposable pipettes. Also remember to always use your safety glasses, gloves, and a mask when preparing your recipes.

Thirty Free Cold Process Soap Recipes

For a blog that we wrote in the past, we created a list of thirty cold process soap recipes. Many of the homemade recipes on our website are for melt and pour soap and cold process soap. Bastille Cold Process Soap Recipe

One specific type of soap that you can make is called bastille. The term “bastille” commonly refers to a type of cold process soap but it can also be made as a hot process soap. There is a very high percentage of olive oil in this soap, 70% or more. We like and prefer to use olive oil pomace in many of our recipes, in addition to other types of oils. Olive oil will increase the lathering quality of your soap and helps it to cure faster. We want to share this recipe for Bastille Soap from Natures Garden, which will make about three pounds of soap. It is an easy to follow recipe and can be made into your own by adding in a soap colorant or mica pigment!
